There are some lovely walks from the house taking in local country pubs - maps in the house.

Further afield you have the Suffolk coastline and wider AONB.

The AONB has 3 long distance walks;

       - The Suffolk Coast Path

       - The Stour and Orwell Walk

       -  The Sandlings Walk

Explorer maps 197, 212, and 231 cover the coast and heaths AONB area, and show the above routes and all Rights of Way, including Open Access Land.

The perfect local area to cycle from the house. 

Spend all day on quiet country lanes hardly ever seeing a motor vehicle.  Take a picnic or plan your route via one of our many country pubs, while enjoying the glorious views of one of England's flattest counties.  Perfect for beginners, and ideal for families.

For experts or the more adventurous just google "Suffolk Cycle Routes" and you will see a number of options including the following National Cycle Routes;

        - Route 1 (North Sea Cycle Route) between Langham & Loddon, Ipswich, Halesworth & Beccles.

        -  Route 13 between Bures and Thompson via Sudbury, Bury and Thetford.

        -  Route 30 between Brandon and Lowestoft via Thetford, Harleston and Beccles

        -  Route 51 between Bury and Felixstowe via Ipswich.

Also look up the Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route which covers the whole Suffolk coastline.

There is ample secure bike storage in the Old Drift House garage, and we keep a basic repair kit and tools in the shed.

There are 3 sailing schools near Ipswich about 30 minutes from the house on the River Orwell leading into the North Sea.

There are also a large number of Sailing Clubs, including Deben Yacht Club, Orford Sailing Club, Royal Harwich Yacht Club, Waldringfield Sailing Club, Bawdsey Quay, Pin Mill Sailing Club, and so on.

All these clubs have their own websites, but you can discuss your requirements with the Owners who will be able to point you in the right direction.

Copdock Riding Centre is the nearest riding school to Old Drift House, at Mace Green Stud Farm, Wenham Road, Ipswich, IP8 3EY - 01473 730678.

They offer lessons for all ages and abilities, and it is advisable to ring before planning a visit.
